Wine tasting, Jazz Music and great food.

Definitely my favorite place in Bonn now. Marcus and Lois are great hosts. The Vinothek and Restaurant combination gives me two great reasons to go back there on a regular basis. Food is really special, good international variety, with some popular South African dishes. Had a steak there on Friday night, absolutely perfectly done...

A touch of class

Sumptuous food in art gallery surroundings. Sampling the wines in the company of hosts Markus and Lois adds a personal touch. The ambience is relaxed making for a sociable and unhurried evening. A certain je ne sais quoi!

Great food, Great wines, Great service!

Stumbled across this lovely restaurant while visiting Bonn for the day. It’s in a good location near the centre and the river. Had a South African menu which I wasn’t sure about but decided to give it a go. I’m a big fan of biltong and we tried some as a starter which we were told the owner makes himself. It was served with chutney. I have to admit it was one of the best I’ve tried. For main I tried something called Bobotie which again didn’t disappoint. They do South African wines and have a vinotek attached so they have amazing choice. My friend ordered the wine of the month which was lovely. To top it all off the service was very good making it an all round good experience. We’ll definitely return if back in Bonn.

What a find

We stumbled across this Restaurant and Bodega whilst staying in Bonn for FIBO. We were greeted by Marcus and before we knew it we had tasted 6 different wines, 3 red and 3 white all from South Africa and all were good, my favourite was a red, see photo which reminded me of a Rioja. We decided to order food and had 3 courses in the Bodega rather than the Restaurant. Grant who owns the restaurant provided the food and Marcus the wine....we had a great evening and hope to return next year. Wine selection 4.5, limited to South African wines Food 4.5, Calamaries starter Service 5.0, Value for Money 4.5, €120 for 3 people

Lovely evening

We tried this restaurant as we walked past it a number of times and it looked great inside. The meal was very tasty and service was polite. We loved the soup (cauliflower) and the open sandwich with biltong. Not too many of the dishes were entirely South African though and were a bit more generic. The wine list was extensive and looked like there were some excellent choices on there Only area of improvement I would recommend is for a few more traditional South African meals on the menu other than Biltong and Bobotie but the Bobotie and Chutney was lovely Thanks for a lovely night!

Superb Sth African restaurant in Bonn

We had an amazing night at The Protea. The service, food and wine were superb and we could not fault the value for money for our meals. Highly recommend this restaurant and we will definately be back again.

We just went there today for business lunch. What a fantastic place. Delicious food, kind personal and tasty wine! I def. will be back.
