Stunning!

This was without doubt one of the best meals I’ve ever had. We both had the set menu and both absolutely loved it. Every detail was focused on how it tasted not how it looked, although I couldn’t fault the presentation either. Service and ambience was warm and relaxing. If you appreciate fine food, this is the place!

Excellent food!

We ate in La Cour des Tanneurs on our trip to Alsace wine road. The location is central but somehow hidden behind the main streets. There were only few dishes in the menu but they were all very good (we were in four thus tried different dishes). I took the fish menu, and it was really very tasty. Also the starter and the dessert were excellent. This is one of the restaurants that one wants to go back. And not only for the food but also for the family-like environment that is not easy to find elsewhere.

The correct name is La Cour des Tanneurs. It is excellent.

Last September Susan and I did an extended walking trip through the beautiful wine country of Alsace. I’d written a glowing review of La Cour des Tanneurs on our return, but later found I had misnamed it "La Tour des Tanneurs.". I still have, however, the glowing memory! This is a smallish restaurant located on the very small street, Ruelle du Canal de l’Ehn - parallel to the pedestrian street rue de Marche. No street number, but a discrete neon sign saying something like Manger or Diner. The first night we almost didn’t go in because there were no diners - but we chatted with the chef/owner and tried it. It was a dining highlight of our trip: superb Alsatian wines by the glass, foie gras, marvelous sauerkraut (which I’d not liked much in America) with excellent sausage, ham, etc. The personal attention was special. We went back the next night and found the restaurant almost full of French families. We had another superb meal. I highly recommend this.
