Very nice hotel

Zum Kater is a small, cosy and friendly hotel in Warnemünde on a quiet street just next to the lively "Am Strom" and within walking distance of shops, restaurants, the beach and the railway station. Rooms are big and bright and some are equipped with a kitchenette. A nice breakfast awaits you in the morning and in the evening you can enjoy a good meal in the restaurant serving a variety of local dishes or enjoy a beer or glass of wine in the pub. If you arrive by car the hotel has its own garage (booking in advance necessary). One plus is that the whole hotel is non-smoking (except the pub!). This is definitely a hotel to return to!

Very cute little hotel one street away from boat marina promenade

Cutesiness abounded in this lovely little hotel which is on the street parallel to the harborside promenade filled with bars, restaurants on shops in the main part of charming little Warnemünde, the beach getaway for the town of Rostock nearby. We were drawn in by the feline theme, which only became more acute as we went up the hotel’s stairs, with dozens of pictures of different kitty-cats in many pose lining the walls of this small hotel. The room was a deal for the somewhat high price (100 euros), though I believe we were charged more because we only wanted to stay for one night. We opened the door to a huge bedroom, with a fully equipped kitchen (I love Germany’s guest house kitchens!) and a spacious, perfectly clean bathroom. The hotel was perfectly quiet, since it didn’t look out onto the main walkway, yet we still had a pretty view with many trees, the historical buildings below, and enough pedestrians to make the view interesting. The breakfast was probably the best we had in Germany, all served in a lovely little dining room that later doubled as a café-restaurant, but with no noxious odors floating up to the room like we experienced in some other hotel/restaurants. The staff spoke no English, which is just the norm in the former East Germany, but hopefully this will gradually change as the region gets the number of foreign tourists it deserves. The town is cute, with a huge beach and teh promenade is the most lively I saw in the former East Germany, with literally thousands of people strolling along. The hotel reception was floored by the presence of foreign tourists, but I hope they get more, and this hotel is definitely worthy of receiving their visit whenin Warnemünde!
