Little Berlin

Must visit if you are around Bavaria Region. Very historical place...way better than Berlin, Checkpoint Charlie. Don’t forget to visit the museum and watch it’s history in English.
Outside museum if free.
Inside museum is 2 euro. Very reasonable for the place.
Very friendly staff.
Will recommend.
Must see.

East and West

The village of Modedlareuth gained the name of "Little Berlin" due to its wall seperating East and West. The museum offers insights into a divided Germany and its open air museum has a section of the original wall with its security features. Provides an interesting reminder of the historical, political, economic and social aspects of a divided germany

Chilling reminder of cold war era

While on a genealogy trip, we detoured and visited Moedlareuth, which is not far from where my ancestors emigrated.

The town has a stream running through it, which in 1949 became the border between East and West Germany. This museum preserves a section of the wall and border guard stations meant primarily to keep the East Germans from escaping.

Seeing the guard towers and dog runs makes you appreciate the freedoms that you have, and is a strong encouragement to stand up for what you believe.

If you are in the area, this is a must see.
